Yellow House Farm is owned by the Scott-Danner family and is located in Middletown, CT. We started the farm here in 2014, in a (possibly naive) attempt to convert a small section of hay field with well entrenched perennial weeds into a productive, organic vegetable farm.
The idea was to grow high quality produce for our local community, using organic and sustainable farming methods. With Norman working full time at his day job, and the twins, Desta and Alex, full time at school, Jennifer (once anthropologist gorilla observer) had to turn farmer to make our idea a reality. Three years and many mistakes and success stories later, things are looking pretty good. We have many happy customers, and we are feeling pretty happy with the results so far.
We sell our produce at Ivoryton Farmers' Market on Saturday mornings (June to Oct), and Garden of Light Natural Food Market in Avon. We also run a CSA for about 15-20 weeks in the summer months, and have coolers at the end of our driveway Sunday-Tuesday in season.
In June 2015, Jennifer started keeping bees for honey. She managed to keep a bee blog running for the whole of 2016, documenting all the ups and downs, from swarms to possible bear attacks, and wasp invasions, to our first experience extracting honey! She was planning on continuing this into 2017, along with a possible farm blog, but eventually decided that there were just no more extra minutes in the day to squeeze it in. Maybe 2018?

Some pictures of the farm coming together are below.
My memory of summer 2016 is weeds, weeds, weeds, many taller than Desta and Alex. I notice I don't have many pictures after early July - I was spending all my time fighting weeds! Although, here's one (below):
